ISPM-15 is an internationally recognized standard established by the International Plant Protection Convention (IPPC). It aims to prevent harmful organisms such as insects, larvae, and fungi from being transported between countries through solid wood packaging materials thicker than 6 mm, including pallets, crates, boxes, and dunnage. Compliance with the standard is verified through Heat Treatment (HT) and the official IPPC mark applied to the wood. This marking is an internationally recognized requirement and is completely separate from domestic traceability markings.
Heat Treatment (HT) is the internationally accepted process required under the ISPM-15 standard for wooden packaging materials. After treatment, pallets, crates, and other wooden packaging products become suitable for international transportation. Each product is inspected after the process and marked with the official IPPC stamp to certify compliance before being approved for export.
Before treatment, the bark is removed from the wood as a mandatory step, eliminating the outer layer where harmful organisms may reside.
The wood is heated until its core temperature reaches at least 56°C and is maintained at that temperature continuously for a minimum of 30 minutes.
After treatment, the wood is stamped on at least two sides with the official IPPC mark containing the wheat symbol, country code (TR), facility number, and treatment code (HT).
The following wood-based materials are exempt from ISPM-15 requirements due to their manufacturing process and therefore do not require heat treatment or IPPC marking.
